Over the course of my internship, I have made many meaningful contributions to my work site. My most notable contribution is probably the renovation of the recording studio that I assisted with. We had to completely redesign both the recording space and the office that is used by the sound technician, since the rooms had to actually switch place. This took a while, but I am certain that it will benefit the company in the future. I have also set up a LinkedIn account for the North County Media Center, which will help them reach new clients in the future. Additionally, I have contributed by assisting on shoots, repairing equipment, taking inventory of our supplies, cleaning up the studio, and writing long summaries for podcasts on their podcast network.
Throughout my work on the site, I have been able to learn a lot about the field of video production. I know understand basic lighting schemes (key, fill, back) and editing techniques. I also am now much more comfortable working with video equipment and have a general understanding of how to set up a shoot. I know these understanding will grow even more when I continue to work with the North County Media Center over the summer.
Throughout my internship, I have noticed that everyone, ranging from the staff at North County Media Center to the crews that come in, is very hardworking and put a lot of effort into their cradt. I hope that when I am in college and in the work field, I will be able to have the same drive when I work on similar projects. Also, Jefferson, my mentor, is very patient with his clients, even when they frustrate him with last minute scheduling and a lack of understanding of the cost of a shoot. I'm not the patient man in the world, so this is defintely a trait I should try to emulate going forward.
Over the course of my internship, I have developed a deeper understanding of work that goes into a simple commercial. For example, when a crew used our studios to shoot a commercial for HP, it took them hours just to place the lights and set up a black background. Now, when a see commericial, especially one that goes for a sleek aesthetic, I think about the amount of work that went into it.
