reflection on Final Product
I am very pleased with our final results. However, I still believe we could have improved upon our final product if we had more time and money. One improvement I would have made with more time would be to rinse my water filter even more. This would have made the charcoal even more clean, which would make the water coming out of the filter have less turbidity. Also, if we would have attached and tested a rainsaucer, which would have completed our final design. Another change I would have made is that is that I would have found a way to test how well our filter removes heavy metals. This would have been helpful because Ethiopian rainwater contains a lot of dangerous heavy metals. However, despite these shortcoming, our filter was still very successful, managing to lower the turbidity of water by over 100 turbidity units and to significantly lower the acidity in water mixed with vinegar to simulate acid rain.
Overall, I'm happy with the experience of working on the project. While there were quite a few bumps in the road, like multiple arguments over the smallest details of the project, I believe we managed to create a solid product. We also learned a lot about how we would use the product while testing it. For example, the charcoal should be replaced after a week of heavy, heavy use since the pores that the activated carbon open will fill up with all the carbon based substances it has attracted.
