-Most looked like small squiggly lines, excluding the larger ones that resembled thin living droplets
-There were large groups around the water droplets
-They moved squirming in different directions
-Some squirmed next to each other
Questions:
-How does it have a constant 959 cells?
A: Once they grow to full size, their cell size remains constant. They grow in a very different way than humans.
-Can they be used to cure diseases?
A: They have been used to research diseases?
-Do their hearts stop at the dauer stage?
A: They don't have hearts.
Research:
-1 mm in length
-Feed on bacteria like E. Coli
-They have one pair of sex chromosomes and 5 pairs of autosomes
-Hermaphrodite is the common sex
-2-3 week life expectancy
-Always have 959 cells
-Valuable research tool; for example, they are commonly used to study genetics
Day 2
On this day we collected soil from different areas to see if we could find any wild nematodes.
Soil 1:
-Collected from compost bin
-Near pumpkin seeds, banana peels, and radishes
-Very dark brown
-Not Very consistent
e
-Particle size is somewhat big
-Their are still some remains of food in the soil, along with some mulch and a few roots
Soil 2:
-Collected from beneath the mulch, which was near the cement walk way and a few succulents
- Light brown, with a tint of green
-Roots inside of it
-Particle size is very small
-Very Solid Consistency
-Their are mulch and rocks inside the soil
Day 3
In the end, we managed only to find nematodes in the Soil 2.
