Look At me now
For this, project we had to make a poster that represented ourselves. On this poster we had to describe ourselves using literary devices. For example, one section was called irony, so we described something surprising that happened in our lives. Making this poster was a very personal experience, since I had to write about myself, something I'm not very comfortable with. However, I felt that typing these experiences and opinions down on paper was a good way to wrestle with how I thought myself as a human being.
I feel that I learned a lot of things during this project, but I feel like I learned the most when I was writing the conflict section. I was finally able to put the emotional restlessness I felt in words, which I think helped me finally find my identity and the way I view the world. The section was also self informative, because it was the first time I had described how I truly felt. It was revelatory experience, because it was the first time I'd really written about how I feel on the inside.
I wish I had spent more time on the symbolism section. It doesn't really feel right, but it was the only thing I kind think of. I feel that their must be more things that I own that symbolize, but none of them came to mind. I would used the extended time to ponder on what exactly would symbolize me. However, since I didn't have that time, I was stuck writing on something that just didn't ring true to me. This section was the hardest write, and probably the worst to read.
I believe that I did the best job at choosing my pictures. All of these pictures mean something to mean, and, in my opinion, I used them and placed them in a thoughtful way. I included many personal things, such as pictures of my parents, best friend, and grandfather. I also used still from movies that I appreciate and feel that represent me. Lastly, I'm glad I was able to incorporate my birth certificate and the photo of a younger me pondering chess. I'm glad I incorporated the former, because it shows where I began, and it makes my poster a little unique. I'm glad for the latter because I think that, due to it's placement, it's pretty funny.
The most enjoyable part of this project was writing the flashback section. I was able reflect on a slightly traumatic moment from my childhood in a somewhat humorous way. Another reason it was the most fun section to write is because it's one of the few parts of my life that makes for a good story. My recklessness causes suspense, and I feel that the way I presented the results of said recklessness was able to convey the pain and regret I felt.
The least enjoyable part of this project was when we had to cut out the pages. I always made a mistake. I honestly couldn't cut a straight line if my life depended on it. This led lots of wasted paper and frustration. Fortunately, my mother showed me a trick to employ to make it look like I cut straight, but this process took a long time. If there would have been a way to do this project without any cutting, I would've taken that option immediately.
The project went well overall, but there are a few complaints I had. I wish there had been more literary devices to choose from, since having to stick with the options you presented felt a little limiting. Also, I would've preferred if the teachers had told us what the poster boards were from the beginning of the school year. This would've helped me prepare for this project better. However, on a whole, the project was pretty great.
