Be-U-tiful Banner Reflection
For this project, we had to create a banner based around an inspirational quote of our choice. I chose my quote, which is from comedian Nathan Fielder, because while it is humorous, it also has a lot of truth to it. A person can never accomplish anything without taking a risk. By being overly cautious, a person would never be able to stand out or move up in life. However, by taking a chance and being willing to face failure head on, someone could definitely be able to get ahead and truly make something of themselves. I hope that people will read this and realize that they themselves should try taking a gamble. The fact that Edison never actually made candles (or invented the light bulb, depending on whom you ask) is besides the point. People need to be able to make decisions, decisions that could possibly lead to failure, because if you don't even try, you'll always just stay at the same level. I plan on taking a risk this year by taking on almost all honors in my high school classes and courses at my local community college, MiraCosta. It'll be hard for me to balance this workload, especially with college applications coming up. However, I'll never know whether or not it'd be impossible to take on all this work if I don't even try.
Overall, I'm proud of my work. I don't have access to Photoshop, so it actually took a while to be able to align, overlap, and edit images using Pixlr, an online editor. It took me an hour just to create a triangle that would be able to print to the correct scale. However, I enjoyed the process of creating my image, because it gave me an opportunity to think about how to make something appealing to the eye and organized enough to be quickly understandable. For example in my first draft, people were unable to tell that I was incoorporating a light bulb due to lack of clarity. I decided to solve this problem by giving the light bulb image more room by overlapping the text over it and incoorporating color.
We also a had to create a mathematical expression to incoorporate into a statement on what we were most excited for in the senior year. You can find my expression below.
