Since I work at a studio, the North County Media Center, the work I do varies from day to day. In this photo essay I will include the variety of jobs I have complete during my internship.
The most consistent task I have is writing summaries for podcasts and video for North County Media Center's e2 Media Network. This task requires a lot of focus, since the summaries are actually closer to transcriptions, since much of the e2 Media Network's audience prefer reading an article about the subject rather than litsening or watching it.
I also help record the podcasts themselves. This job mostly involves me monitoring the sound levels as the hosts record and making sure that things such as phone interviews and music were introduced into the show smoothly.
This is one of the smaller projects I was able to contribute towards, giving me an opportunity to gain hands on learning. This shoot was for arm training product called the 4arm strong that is used by many proffesional athletes, such as motocross. It was the first project that I had ever worked on, so I mostly stuck to working with the boom mic and helping move the lights.
My next shoot was for the spiritual entrepeneur John Assaraf and involved a green screen. During this project, I helped place most of the lights and contributed a great deal to the entire set up, especially the green screen, for the video.
This is one of the larger project I have assisted with. On projects like these I am not able to contribute as much, since they already have such a large crew. However, I did help them figure out how to set up their lights and was an extra helping hand throughout. Plus, just being on set was a great learning experience.
Here are two sides of a a sound studio I helped remodel. Before, the two sides were actually flipped, with the recording booth on the left and the office on the right. However, after the hard work my mentor and I put in, you would never be able to tell.
I also had the task of completing North County Media Center's paint inventory.
Along with working on the shoots themselves, I have also repaired the lights used on set.
For my main project, I was able to take the lead on a shoot and set up everything on my own. In these pictures, I have set up lights and a boom mic, both of which are essential in making your video look and sound proffesional.
Along with the other equipment I of course have to set up a camera so that it frames my subject in an eye catching way.
After setting up all of this equipment and more, I am ready to begin my shoot.
Throughout the shoot, I must direct my subject so that they are always within and near the center of the frame and generally make sure that they look appealing throughout.
After the shoot, I have to take everything apart and put all of the equipment back in their proper places.
After the shoot and I need to be able to edit, add music, and add post production details to my video to finally finish it.
Here is my mentor, Jefferson Drexler. He has guided me throughout all of our shoots and projects and has helped me improve my knowledge of videography and the business that surrounds it.
Here is Joel Fieri, the owner of the North County Media Center. He is essentially our boss and rents out the studio to whomever would like to shoot there.
